Hydraulic Damper for Sloping Gates

The radial damper provides resistance to the gate while it is running down the hill but freewheels going uphill. It is recommended to fit a damper on steep rakes both to aid the motor and for safety reasons.

Sliding Gates on steeply raking driveways can be dangerous if they are released using the key in the event of a power failure. The forces of a heavy free moving gate down a slope mean will not be able to be stopped by hand if it starts moving. The gate damper minimises this safety issue.

The other reason to install a damper is to help the motor. If it is the right size it will be able to push the gate uphill with no problems. But going downhill, the motor still wants to push the gate but the gate is instead pushing the motor! This causes problems with the control of the operator and can lead to faulty operation if the forces are high. A gate damper reduces these problems and can bring the forces back inside the operating parameters of the motor.
